Review: Don't Starve Together (2016)

★★★★

The notion of survival games, although they're nothing new, cooperative games may be thrilling when done well. Regarding "Don't Starve Together," I believe it to be among the greatest. Although it's a fictional environment, the developments gave it a realistic feel. There are other things you need to take care of besides your health. Additionally, you need to be mindful of your hunger and sanity. They're real easy to forget about. The easiest is your hunger, the hardest is your sainity.

That all varies, though. The game allows you to select from 18 different characters, all with different traits and attributes. Wilson grows a beard for insulation, while Willow is immune to fire and can summon her teddy bear, Bernie. Wolfgang grows stronger with food but weaker when hungry, and Wendy summons her ghost sister Abigail for combat. WX-78 upgrades with gears but is vulnerable to water, and Wickerbottom uses powerful spell books but suffers from insomnia. Woodie transforms into were-creatures, Wes is a challenging mime with lower stats, and Maxwell summons shadow puppets for assistance. Wigfrid excels in combat but only eats meat, and Webber befriends spiders but is disliked by pigs. Winona crafts machinery, Wortox collects souls for healing, and Wormwood can grow plants instantly but is hurt by healing items. Warly cooks special dishes but tires of food quickly, Wurt organizes merm communities, and Walter is a scout with a dog but loses sanity when hurt. Each character's unique abilities shape the game's strategic depth.

The game features four seasons: Autumn, which is the first season, Winter, Spring, and Summer, in addition to realism. The easiest seasons are autumn and spring; winter and summer are the hardest. Every season has its unique set of problems. You must stay warm and make sure you eat a lot throughout the winter months when the temperature drops. It's important to stay as cool as possible throughout the summer because the temperature rises significantly. Food is harder to come by during the summer months since everything dries up.

There are other things to watch out for besides the seasons. There are lots of adversaries in this game. The majority of the animals you come across are indeed lethal. In order to quickly protect yourself, you need to consider which weapons would be the finest to choose from if you have been hoarding resources and making supplies. There are also bosses which are more difficult to get rid of. Most of them have higher health and higher damage, which can make you vulnerable to attacks. If you end up dying, reviving isn't easy, you have to find a touch stone, or if you're playing with a friend, they can craft "The Telltale Heart." However, with mods, you can revive by haunting your skeletion or a campfire/firepit. But if you're playing without mods, don't die and don't starve.

Overall, what a fun survival Co-Op game! The original game "Don't Starve" was good enough. But playing this with friends is an absolute blast! The idea of having to work together is a truly wonderful idea. And so many characters to pick from with different attributes. One of my favorite Co-Op games. What's generous of Steam, once you buy this game, you'll receive an extra copy for free, to send to a friend! So you can starve together and get killed by Hounds! And Charlie!

Rating: 4/4 stars.
